Trauma‑Informed Support for Alcohol, Cannabis, Stimulants, Opioids, and Other Substance Use Patterns
When substances become a way to cope, numb, or get through the day — you don’t have to face it alone.
Substance use often begins as a way to manage pain, stress, overwhelm, or emotional pressure. Over time, it can become a pattern that feels harder to control, harder to talk about, and harder to stop — even when part of you wants to.
I offer trauma‑informed, shame‑aware counseling for adults navigating substance use patterns that feel entrenched, confusing, or isolating. My approach is grounded, relational, and somatically oriented — focused not just on the behavior, but on the emotional and nervous‑system roots beneath it.
Why trauma‑informed addiction counseling matters
Most substance use isn’t about the substance. It’s about:
- overwhelm that never got named
- pressure that built up over years
- pain carried quietly
- relational wounds that shaped coping
- nervous‑system dysregulation
- shame that keeps everything hidden
Trauma‑informed addiction counseling helps you understand why the pattern formed — and how to shift it without judgment, force, or pressure.
What we work on together
- alcohol use (daily drinking, binge cycles, “functioning but struggling”)
- cannabis dependence
- stimulant use (cocaine, methamphetamine, ADHD medication misuse)
- opioid use
- polysubstance patterns
- cycles of quitting and returning
- shame, secrecy, and isolation
- emotional triggers and nervous‑system overwhelm
- identity contraction (“I don’t feel like myself anymore”)
This is not a punitive or moralistic approach. It’s a relational, trauma‑rooted one.
My approach
Substance addiction counseling integrates:
- somatic awareness
- trauma‑informed principles
- nervous‑system regulation
- pattern‑based understanding
- shame‑sensitive dialogue
- experiential grounding
- relational presence
- practical support for change
You don’t need to be “ready to quit.” You just need to be ready to talk about what’s happening.
Naturistic Counseling (optional)
For clients who prefer therapy outdoors, I offer Naturistic Counseling only in East Longmont. This can be especially supportive for:
- shame‑based patterns
- emotional overwhelm
- difficulty opening up indoors
- craving cycles
- stress‑driven use
Clients can blend indoor and naturistic sessions depending on the week.
Getting started
We begin with a conversation about what you’re navigating, what you’ve tried, and what feels most important right now. You don’t have to have the “right words.” You don’t have to know where to start. We’ll figure it out together.
