Hello and welcome to 1 Life Counseling!! My name is Ed and I have been working as a certified addiction counselor in the state of Colorado for the past 8 years years, including the last year and half as a Licensed Addiction Counselor.
My long journey towards becoming a counselor started in 1996 after completing my first Masters degree, MDiv. Eventually, I would become interested in integrating Christian theology with psychology and was initially influenced by the Boundary books. As I continued in my pursuit, I became more interested in contemplative Christian writings and eventually left the rigid dogma of my faith in 2011.
At the beginning of 2013 I began to read and become familiar with the writings of Eckhart Tolle. This began my spiritual journey to discover who I was beyond the ways I’d been conditioned to see, think and feel about myself. By 2018, I had become certified as an addiction counselor and started working full time as an addiction counselor in 2019 and throughout Covid.
After working for a year in a methadone clinic, I went back to school at Adams State and received a Master of Arts through their Mental Health Counselor department and have gone on to become licensed both as an Addiction and Mental Health Counselor. Today, I continue to be especially passionate about how spiritual practice can enhance mental health and healing from trauma.
When I’m not working with clients, you can often find me on a trail or in a coffee shop. I moved to Colorado from Austin, Texas approximately 10 years ago and fell in love with spending time on many of Colorado’s trails either hiking or backpacking. I also like to think I have become quite the amateur nature photographer and love to use some of my pics as the background in my telehealth sessions. In addition to spending time outdoors hiking, I enjoy Friday nights in with Netflix, listening to music and following my favorite sports teams that I’ve rooted for since growing up in Dallas, TX.
In my sessions, I am passionate about integrating greater awareness of the body-mind connection and educating clients on the complexities of human behavior, using anecdotes and sometimes humor. You will find I am easy to talk to, a patient listener, very empathetic and non- judgmental. I am passionate about helping clients find relief from their suffering!
